Yesterday I broke down my favorite movies of 2012, well at least my 10-6 picks.
Now it’s time to reveal the crem de le crem. The movies that I personally enjoyed the most.
Staring with….
#5 The Amazing Spiderman
Some people liked this movie, some people did. I’m with the first crowd. Now it wasn’t perfect, there was one moment that particularly irked me, but it didn’t subtract from my overall enjoyment of the film. To me what made this a good movie was Peter Parker. He was smart, witty, and awkward. Those are the things that make a good Peter Parker. Also Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy… finally Spidy gets a girlfriend whose main point in the movie isn’t just to get kidnapped so the web slinger can save her. She actually helps in taking down the villain! Lizard was also cool to see.
#4 Django Unchained
I waited to make my list until after I saw this movie, and I’m glad I did. Django has some of the best acting and best writing I’ve seen. The story is fun and interesting, and you can’t completely guess what’ll happen. This was my friend’s number one movie of the year. Oh, and the N-word is used a lot. But let me say this…. it makes sense. This isn’t some “gangsta” movie where people use the word to seem tough, it has historical relevance. If a movie like this was made and that word was avoided…. it would severally damage the movie. And this is coming from someone who does not use that word.
#3 Looper
I loved looper. Bruce Willis is one of my favorite actors to watch on screen, and JGL is also a fantastic actor. I love sci-fi, Star Wars and Back to the Future are some of my favorite movies of all time. With any time travel shenanigans there will be “loop holes”, but for what it was I thought Looper was very smart and an overall fantastic movie. I saw it in stores the other day and if I had the money I would have bought it on Blu-Ray immediately. Can’t wait to see it again!
#2 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
I’ve already gone in depth on what I thought of this film, so I’ll just link to that post here.
And My #1 favorite movie of the Two Thousand and Twelve of Our Lord is……..
#1 The Avengers!!
Did you really expect anything else? I adored this movie. Me and a bunch of friends went to see it at the midnight release and I’m so glad it did. The fact that this was a culmination of a 4-5 year plan is remarkable. The fact that it paid off (quite literally) makes it even better. Avengers proves that if you take your time with something good things will come of it. To bring together that many characters with all their personalities and make it work is a feat of excellence. It also proves that not every movie has to be dark and serious and gritty. It was like reading a good comic book, but on the big screen! And, I mean, that’s the way it should be right? Considering the movie it is? The Avengers epitomized why I go to the movies, why I love the movies, It was a fun entertaining well written action packed event. It feels more like an event than just another movie. All the rest of this list are great movies, but only the Avengers is an event. When I think of 2012 and movies, I think of the Avengers. Call me a fanboy, but this is my pick and I’m sticking with it. Some might say the whole atmosphere of opening night might effect my opinion, but I just recently watched it again and I STILL rank it here, at the number one spot.
Now some movies that I think deserve honorable mention, and might have made it on to the list if it weren’t for the fact that there were just SO many good movies this year are:
The Dark Knight Rises
Skyfall
The Vow
Hunger Games
and Snow White and the Huntsman
Well that’s all for 2012, let’s see how well 2013 can compare!
my list again is:
Avengers
Hobbit
Looper
Django
Spiderman
Argo
Flight
Wreck-it Ralph
7 Psychopaths
End of Watch
Pax Et Bonum from your FranciscanAutobot!!!

One and Two, I know they were close for you. I’ve not see all these Movies, and I’d not see #4 due to your reason, as …”accurate” as it may be.
I think I need to see the Hobbit again.
I’d love to see a Religion post about the Hobbit.
You’ll not see Django because of its N-word use? Please tell me you’re not also on the side of rewriting and censoring Huck Finn…
I can’t stand to hear people in real life say it(& I often correct them) so why see a movie where I know I’ll hear it repeatedly. Books are someone different, but again I’d not say it if reading out load(I’d not say it in my mind either).
I though the Hobbit may edge out Avengers… I was on edge to see which it be!!
I think you’re cheating yourself out of an excellent movie, but I respect your opinion.
Hobbit was great, I saw it twice in theaters, but to me it was a clear winner that Avengers would come out on top! Before December my top 3 were Avengers followed by Looper then Spiderman. It’s amazing how excellent sep-dec were for movies!
I’m sure it is, but it would make me feel way to uncomfortable.
I figured it be one and two!! They were both great, a lot of plot, action(though in the Hobbit it was a subdued action). They were great, simply put.
Funny you don’t watch the award aspect. For the actual award part you should
I find we only truly live when we step outside our comfort zone.
Oh, I’ll probably see who wins the awards. Seeing as how the only Best Film nominees I’ve seen are Django and Argo, obviously I’m pulling for Django though it’ll most likely go to Lincoln.
True, but I don’t think I’ll see it anyway.
I do like to see who wins, and my Mom likes the Fashion: win win.
